Bad news and a fresh start...Sigh

First the bad news...I got laid off on Monday.............

YES I DID! I loved where I was working and all the people I was working with so this was a tough one. I've been laid off before and probably will be again because that is the nature of my business, Automotive Tool Design for those that don't know. I knew this was just a contract job and I would be laid off within a few months but I didn't see it coming and well....it kinda stung.
OUCH!

So, I came home on Monday and felt sorry for myself and didn't go to guild that night cause I just didn't feel like it.....then I got up Tuesday and went to get my hair done. This the before picture:
And AFTER:

I like it! (and it hides the little shaved area from the surgery in Jan!)
It's all good!

Hopeful

Well, it is Saturday which used to bring a smile to my face but since I have been layed off Saturday is no big deal. Well, except I'm not alone in my house all day. I had to file for an extension on my unemployment. 6 months already. I have hope that my job will come back. It is the hope of a new president and a hope for change. IF the auto companies get the monetary help they need to retool then it means there WILL be work in tool design and I will be able to go back to work again. I have finally decided I need to learn another trade though since I'm pretty sure I can't withstand another layoff, assuming I survive this one. I have put in some resumes but haven't heard anything.
On a happier note. Dad is home from the hospital. He went in again since I last wrote and was having trouble breathing and his heart was acting up. They ended up putting a pace maker in him last Monday. He can't drive for a couple weeks and can't work (YES! HE WORKS) for a month. I am going over today and clean his bathroom and kitchen and make him some food. Bringing him a few left overs from here and making a big batch of oatmeal cookies to bring him. He should be fine now that his heart is taken care of.
I am finishing up with a quilt I should have been done with over a month ago. I feel bad about it. It is my friend's quilt and I have apologized to her but I get the feeling she is mad about it. I am hoping to get my crap together now that dad is ok.
I need to do some sewing too. I haven't pieced anything in well over a month too.
Maybe that is why I'm cranky?

Every day is the same...

....well, when you are laid off it is! It really sucks being laid off. I should have lot's of free time and I should have lots of time to work on my own quilts and projects but I subject myself to mountains of work to do around the house. Maybe it is guilt. The feeling that if I am not working then I can at least keep the house spotless, clean out all the closets, plan meals and cook every day, etc. etc. I also have a customer quilt here that I SHOULD finish first before anything else. I don't know what is wrong with me. I need to get my crap together and make better use of my time....and do something other than housework and laundry! SHEESH!
We had a funeral this week. My neighbor and good friend Larry lost his brother on Sat. Only 36 yrs old and gone. What a shame. This same neighbor is raising his two young daughters by himself after his wife passed away two years ago from Leukemia. I have been babysitting for him in the mornings before his MIL comes over for the day. He leaves for work at 5:30am and it is pretty easy for me to tumble out of bed and go across the street. it also forces me to get out of bed early each day instead of sleeping until 10.
On the quilting note. I finally finished Brian's quilt and am half done with the customer quilt. I should finish today and be able to call her this evening...that is my goal anyway.
