Stash Report 6 - 2009 and some Finished tops

Stash report and some finishes. Well, top finishes anyway. They still need quilting.

First off, this is just the center of this quilt I am calling it Confetti. It still needs a border. This week I hope to do that.

A close look at the blocks. It is a disappearing 9 patch pattern.
Next, I finished this top and have the backing and binding ready to go. I still need to quilt it. This one my sister gave me the Seahawks fabric and asked me to make a quilt for her husband. I added the green because it needed color and there is a tiny bit of this color in the eyes......

REALLY! Look close!

I finally finished this top. This is the 2007 mystery quilt that Linda Lawson designed and had going. She is the owner of Long Arm Chat. I really like the way this one came out. Backing and binding ready to go. There is a cream border that is hard to see as it melts into the carpet color.

Now this is another quilt that I had the center done and still needed borders for a long time. I always get stopped at the borders but NO MORE! (Do you recognize this one Kay P.?)
This is the one I used stash fabric on this week. All in all, I am happy with how much I got done this week.

I also have been trying to BUST MY SCRAPS!

I have lots of scraps but hardly ever venture in that drawer because it looks something like this!

I just can't face going in that drawer and trying to pick out fabric so I don't. The pile of scraps keeps growing, as you may imagine. I decided to tackle them this year too. I picked out around 7 different quilts that I want to make that are scrappy in different color ways so when I cut the scraps, I can cut them for a PROJECT and put it in that drawer. I have worked on it for 3 days now and hardly made a dent....but I WILL!

I can't help it, I am a tad OCD and this scrap drawer thing was making me just a little crazy!

That is just what I could FIT in there. I also have 8 bins under my long arm that contain STUFF.
Some of that is backings and quilt tops I bought on ebay though....(don't ask!)

A new President, a New Hope for America

At the Neighborhood Ball at Washington's Convention Center, President Barack Obama, said: "First of all, how good-looking is my wife?"

Ya gotta love a man who adores his wife of many years! I am thrilled today to have a new president. I haven't even decided yet why I really LIKE this president. I didn't at first. I wanted Hillary for president and wasn't happy when she was defeated and I had decided I didn't like this "Obama guy"

He won me over!
He won me over with his well spoken words. With his kind gentle manner. With his educated responses. With his education! With his humility and his integrity. I think mostly, his integrity. Finally! A leader we can really look up to. Someone we are PROUD to have our children emulate and want to BE when they grow up. While I understand how very important that this African American man has become our president, I like the fact that Obama himself has stressed that it is the struggling men and women that have fought prejudices and segregation before him that has allowed the acceptance and the tolerance that not only allows a black man to be president but to be overwhelmingly supported.
I am very excited to see what this president does for us. Where he leads. Because I believe THIS MAN has the ability to bring wonderful, enlightening change to our country.
God bless us all.

Mini Meeting- Jan 2009-Castle blocks quilt 1

Here is Linda (she took most of the other pictures) This isn't the best picture of her but the only one I had (bummer).







My small longarm group called the "minis" had a meeting yesterday. We take turns meeting at each others houses. This month it was Nancy's turn. She has a great studio in the whole lower level of her house. (Basement really) Three of the 8 women involved in our group have Intellequilters (IQ). I, of course, am not one of those people. Nancy generously offered for me to bring a quilt to do to the meeting. I picked one that has been a UFO for a very long time. I started this quilt in 1992 I believe. It was one of the very first quilts I ever pieced. I taught myself to piece from books and didn't know how important the 1/4 seam would be. There is lots of piecing in one direction of each block and I never checked to make sure they were square (see where this is headed?) When I laid it all out and started to put a row together, WTH? It doesn't fit! I THEN measured the block and found my blocks were almost all 7.5x 8". Well they wouldn't work so I threw them in a box. A box that I finally unearthed last summer. I took them with me on a trip I took and had time to kill and trimmed a 1/4" from each end and came home and put them together. So I decided I would bring this one to quilt. We used the "Come Dance With Me" Panto. Nancy was so great about explaining and really showing me how everything worked.


It was so fast and organized too. There were 6 of us there and they jumped right in to pin the backing on and get it loaded and wind bobbins etc. Here is Marg (pinning) and Gail

It was a great day! I love when we have our meetings. We always do something fun. Next meeting is at Linda's and we are all bringing blocks and going to make pot holders. Unfortunately it started snowing when I got to Nancy's house at 10am and was still snowing at 5pm when we left. Let's just say it was a white knuckle ride home. My Sebring has front wheel drive and it hardly slides around at all (surprisingly). Took almost 2 hrs to get home (a 1 hour drive usually). All in all it was a great day!

Stash report 1-2009

The fabric in this post is for the two new quilts in my January Goal list.
I bought some yardage to make the two new quilts but because I am using them immediately I don't count them in my stash. I did shop my stash first for both quilts so here is the yardage pulled this week: The Seahawks material was purchased by my sister. The white print I just bought but I pulled the green from my stash. 3.5 yds
The second quilt I had to buy the black print fabric but I pulled the rest from my stash. 5.5 yds
